Meet the photographers
It’s about that
little skin prickle when they’ve gotten a great shot, knowing the
bride or groom is going to see it and connect, forever, with the
moment. Wedding photography brings a lot of fulfillment to
photojournalists Stephanie Carey and Ralph Wilson
because it’s a combination of photographic art and the challenge of
capturing one of the most unblemished human emotions: sincere joy.
The two have merged their talents to produce wedding collections that
are artistic, creative, and detailed. “Photojournalistic wedding
photography is more than a collection of candid shots,” according to
Ralph. “The photographs should tell the story of the day—the big
picture as well as the smaller details. All of those elements need to
be composed into the frame artistically to become lasting treasures.”
Both photographers were first attracted to the process and art of
photography, Stephanie through developing her own prints in a darkroom
during a graphic arts class, and Ralph more than forty years ago,
learning from his father. And although it’s a career, it’s still a
passion for both. Images from their travels are on display at their
studio in Williamsport, and both have earned awards for their
photographs.
They pursue
photography in other ways, too. Stephanie shares her knowledge and her
enthusiasm for photography with aspiring young photographers each
summer at Lycoming College's College for Kids and Teens. Ralph
freelances for the Williamsport Sun-Gazette and Associated Press,
pursuing editorial work through
Ralph Wilson Photography.
